FJMAA at the Raising Health Fair

Fujianese Medical Association of America (FJMAA) was thrilled to join forces with the New York State Society of Physician Associates (NYSSPA) and Physician Associates in Asian Health (PAAH) at the Raising Health Fair!
Our incredible team connected with community members, provided free blood pressure screenings, introduced FJMAA’s work, and distributed our Fuzhounese-speaking provider directory. A true highlight was seeing attendees’ faces light up when they discovered that providers who speak Fuzhounese may be available to support their care. Those moments remind us why culturally and linguistically responsive healthcare matters so much.
We are excited to keep building and strengthening this directory so that more community members can find care in a language they understand and trust.

A huge thank-you to NYSSPA, PAAH, Raising Health, and every volunteer and team member who made this meaningful day possible. Together, we are helping make healthcare more accessible for our community!

FJMAA collaborated with VNS Flushing to provide Hypertension education.

FJMAA member, Dr. Tuo Chen, delivered an informative and engaging presentation on hypertension, and offering valuable insights and practical knowledge for our community in Flushing. The workshop sparked thoughtful discussion, and the audience was truly captivated and actively engaged throughout.

It was great to see both familiar faces and new members come out to support FJMAA. We are grateful to everyone who helped make the event such a success!

FJMAA President, Dr. Kevin Tin, supports Physician Associates and made a generous donation to the organization, PAs in Asian Health (PAAH) Scholarship Fund. This gift will help support aspiring Physician Associates as they pursue their education, develop as leaders, and work toward improving healthcare in the communities they serve.

FJMAA collaborated with Homecrest to provide fatty liver education and screening.

FJMAA had another amazing event yesterday on 6/1 where we provided a free educational workshop and screening on fatty liver disease in Brooklyn.
We collaborated with Homecrest Community Services and offered on-site FibroScan screenings, giving participants a valuable opportunity for early detection and real-time education. It was incredible to see how engaged everyone was, with so many thoughtful questions and a genuine eagerness to learn more about liver health.
Moments like this remind us how powerful community education can be. Together, we are taking steps toward prevention, awareness, and healthier futures.

FJMAA is so grateful to be part of such meaningful work.

March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and our FJMAA team was proud to partner with the United Chinese Association of Brooklyn to host a free colorectal cancer screening workshop.
It was a truly meaningful and successful event, filled with education, engagement, and strong support for preventive health.

FJMAA teams up with VNS Health, Northwell Health, CAIPA and DELIVERS SUCCESSFUL HEALTH FAIR FOR THE SUNSET PARK COMMUNITY 

Fujianese Medical Association delivered a successful health fair event delivering patient education including medical consultations from multiple specialties, dental screening, liver screening with advanced technology to assess for fatty liver and liver fibrosis, and, administering flu shots. Over 100 people from the community showed up at the event. Special thanks to our partners for the event including physicians, healthcare providers and administrative staff from VNS, CAIPA, Rendr, Northwell and local pharmacies

FJMAA teams up with university of pennsylvania medical students for covid19 patient navigation

Members of the Fujianese Medical Association has teamed up with medical students from the University of Pennsylvania to help assist in educating and patient navigation for the public to access the COVID-19 vaccination. FJMAA VOLUNTEERS FOR COVID-19 VACCINE ADMINISTRATION

Members of the Fujianese Medical Association, including: Dr. Kevin Tin, Dr. Chun Wong, and, Xiaoyu Shi RN, took time out to volunteer in partnership with SOMOS Community Care to do COVID-19 vaccine administration. In helping, we hope the amount of vaccine administered will catch up to the amount of vaccines distributed. We believe in having as many people get vaccinated as quickly as possible before the emergence of new variants that can possibly deem the vaccine ineffective.

MEDICATION INFORMATION EVENT

Our secretary, Xiao Fen (Samantha) Zhao, Pharm. D, took an hour to be interviewed by members of aijia.us, a popular chinese website on household-related items, on commonly used over-the-counter medications to help treat mild illnesses such as cough, allergies, pain, and burns. Afterwards, she had a Q&A session with the listeners. As many patients are trying to avoid visiting their doctor or going to the hospital, she believes that providing education to the community on these medications can be helpful and valuable.
